Located on Appalachian State University’s campus near Kidd Brewer Stadium is a multi-phase resident hall development. Each hall is named after natural landmarks surrounding campus and when combined totals over 500,000 SF with 2,000 beds.
Phase I, completed in August 2020, contained the construction of Raven Rocks and Thunder Hill, named after popular destinations along the Blue Ridge Parkway. These two residence halls have 912 beds and share 240,000+ SF. This phase also included the addition of a police substation and an entrepreneurship/living learning center.
Phase II and Phase III reached completion in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Phase II included the demolition of old residence halls to make way for the addition of Laurel Creek Hall. Laurel Creek Hall is named after the nearby stream that runs into the Watauga River. At the end of Phase II, the residence hall added 638 beds and 150,000+ SF. Phase III of the development included the completion of New River Hall with 753 beds.
