Earthcraft Certified to Hearthside Brookleigh helped by Jordan & Skala Engineers
Jordan & Skala Engineers helped NorSouth Development create Hearthside Brookleigh, a $15.7 million Earthcraft certified, 121-unit Senior apartment community in Northeast Atlanta.
An amenity rich and affordable community designed for independent Seniors age 62 and older, the project is Phase III of Brookleigh, a 56-acre , six-phase, mixed-use development on the site of a former public housing project in north DeKalb County. Completed in 2012, Brookleigh is mixed-use, mixed-income community built around a central park.
With Jordan & Skala’s national reputation for designing MEP systems for multi-tenant residential projects, their portfolio of dozens of sustainable projects, (both under the guidance of Southface Institute’s regional Earthcraft certification program and the United States Green Building Council’s national LEED certification program), and success designing an earlier Earthcraft certified project for Norsouth – Hearthside at Townlake, the firm was a logical choice to provide Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing design for the Hearthside Brookleigh endeavor.
The community of one and two bedroom apartments includes amenities such as a residents’ lounge, media room and fitness center. Jordan & Skala’s multi-disciplinary engineering team worked within the client’s budget and schedule to provide integrated design that capitalized on sustainable, energy efficient solutions. Superior and sustainable performance was achieved for the HVAC, electric and plumbing systems by using high-efficiency heat pump systems, high efficiency indoor and outdoor light fixtures, Energy Star appliances and water efficient plumbing fixtures.
With a high level of interior finishes, high level of amenities and the opportunity to have minimal monthly utility costs, Hearthside Brookleigh is sure to be a popular place to live for area Seniors.
