Design Implications of COVID-19 & Indoor Air Quality Webinar
About the Webinar
The COVID-19 pandemic has made us face a new reality full of challenges in the A/E/C industry. As businesses and schools reopen around the country, trying to understand more about the spread of the novel coronavirus in relation to indoor air quality is of vital importance.
Jordan & Skala was honored to have been invited as a moderator to the “Design Implications of COVID-19 & Indoor Air Quality Webinar” hosted by AIA (American Institute of Architects). In this webinar, AIA Atlanta, AIA Georgia, and AIA North Carolina brought together a panel of experts from around the southeast who addressed building occupant health and safety, including virus transmission, current concerns, best practices; and the future of interior design for offices and multi-tenant buildings.
The webinar had close to 200 attendees, becoming AIA Atlanta, AIA Georgia, and AIA Noth Carolina’s most attended event for this series. Those that attended the session live received one LU/HSW Continuing Education Unit (CEU) as recognition for keeping up to date with the latest in the A/E/C industry.
Topics covered
- Current Georgia building codes regarding air quality and the likelihood of changes impacting design decisions
- General information on airborne particle sizes involved in talking, breathing, coughing, and sneezing
- Evidence for cloth masks, partitions, and portable air cleaners to prevent the spread of airborne particles
- Various construction techniques, HVAC interventions, filters, air exchanges, and more regarding particle movement
- The cost-benefit calculations for these potential interventions from a development perspective and architects’ options in a multi-tenant office space
