Make Better Energy Decisions

Energy performance is shaped by hundreds of choices throughout a project, including the building envelope, HVAC systems, lighting, controls, water use, and how the building is operated.

Jordan & Skala helps owners, developers, and project teams understand those choices before they are locked in. Our Energy Services team evaluates energy use, code requirements, incentives, and lifecycle costs to help you identify practical opportunities and make decisions that support both project goals and building performance.

Because our Sustainability team works alongside JSE’s MEP and Low Voltage engineers, we can connect energy analysis with the systems being designed, not treat sustainability as a separate exercise.

Energy Strategies That Support Better Decisions

Our role is to give you the information needed to determine where an investment makes sense, where it doesn’t, and what should happen next. We know how to navigate from requirement to real-world implication.

  • Understand how energy requirements affect your project
  • Compare design and system options
  • Reduce energy consumption
  • Evaluate potential incentives and financial benefits
  • Assess expected operating costs and lifecycle value
  • Energy code and program compliance
  • Measure actual building performance

Energy Services

Energy Modeling

JSE develops models to support energy code compliance, green building programs, incentive programs, and comparisons between building systems and strategies.

We evaluate your project goals, location, building type, and priorities to help identify the programs and strategies that make the most sense.

Energy requirements vary by jurisdiction and continue to evolve. JSE helps project teams understand applicable energy codes, evaluate compliance paths, and incorporate requirements into the design process before they become a permitting issue.

JSE performs COMcheck and REScheck calculations to evaluate building components against applicable energy code requirements and help project teams determine an appropriate prescriptive compliance path.

Where third-party review is required, our certified plan reviewers evaluate project documentation against applicable energy codes and jurisdictional requirements, helping identify issues before they create delays.

Energy codes and local amendments change over time. We monitor applicable requirements and help owners, developers, architects, and project teams understand how updates may affect current and future projects.

Energy Incentive Programs

Energy improvements may qualify for utility, local, state, federal, or other financial incentives. JSE helps identify relevant opportunities, evaluate eligibility, and coordinate the technical information needed to support applications and implementation.

Daylight simulation helps evaluate how natural light is distributed throughout a space and how design decisions may affect daylight availability. These studies can support energy strategies, occupant comfort, and applicable green building requirements.

JSE can help collect and evaluate energy-use information for ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, SEDI scores, green building programs, jurisdictional requirements, and ongoing performance analysis.

For residential projects, JSE provides HERS and ERI ratings to evaluate energy efficiency and support applicable code and green building requirements. The process combines energy modeling with field data and performance information from the building itself.

JSE can evaluate energy-related lifecycle costs and support value engineering decisions by comparing upfront investment with expected operating costs and potential savings.

Energy Services for New and Existing Buildings

New Construction

Energy decisions made during early design can influence equipment sizing, capital costs, operating expenses, code compliance, and future building performance. JSE works with project teams early enough to evaluate options while there is still flexibility to make changes.

Existing Buildings

For existing properties, we focus on understanding how the building is actually performing. Energy analysis and audits can help owners prioritize improvements, evaluate capital investments, and identify opportunities based on energy use, building condition, maintenance, and expected return.

Portfolio and Development Planning

Owners managing multiple properties or planning larger developments may need a consistent approach to energy performance. JSE can help establish evaluation criteria and energy strategies that can be applied across projects while accounting for differences in building type, location, and local requirements.

Why Jordan & Skala

01

Energy Analysis Connected to Design

Our Sustainability team works closely with JSE’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, and low voltage engineers, giving us a practical understanding of how energy strategies translate into equipment, systems, controls, and building operation.

02

Practical Recommendations

We help prioritize opportunities based on project goals, cost, feasibility, code requirements, and expected value.

03

National Perspective, Regional Understanding

Energy requirements, incentives, climate conditions, and construction practices vary by location. JSE brings experience across markets while accounting for the specific requirements affecting your project.

04

Support Beyond Compliance

Meeting energy code may be the starting point, but not the end goal. When owners want to go further, we can help evaluate the additional strategies that may improve energy performance, reduce operating costs, or support broader sustainability objectives.
