Electrical Systems That Support the Building Without Creating Added Complexity

Power, lighting, emergency systems, controls, and equipment connections touch nearly every part of a project. We help teams make those decisions with code requirements, safety, energy use, coordination, and the realities of construction in view from the start.

Electrical Decisions Reach Across the Entire Building

Electrical design affects more than where power comes from. It influences safety, architecture, operations, equipment, lighting, and the systems every other discipline depends on.

Distribution, equipment loads, utility service, emergency power, and backup requirements have to be sized and coordinated around the actual building—not assumptions.

Fire alarm, emergency lighting, surge protection, lightning protection, and standby systems help protect occupants, equipment, and essential operations when normal conditions change.

Interior and exterior lighting affect visibility, energy use, safety, atmosphere, and the architectural experience. Coordination early helps technical requirements support rather than compete with the design.

Mechanical equipment, low-voltage systems, elevators, appliances, lighting, and specialty equipment all need power. We work across disciplines so those requirements are identified before they become late changes.

Our Electrical Services

Power Distribution

Plan the electrical infrastructure that brings power into the building and distributes it where needed. JSE designs switchboards, panelboards, feeders, and branch circuits and will coordinate directly with local utility providers as part of the process.

Plan backup power for project requirements including life safety systems, elevator emergency power, stair pressurization, emergency lighting, and other systems that need to remain available during an emergency event.

Support critical operations during a loss of power with uninterruptible power supply and battery backup systems. These systems can help facilities such as server and data rooms maintain operation until normal power is restored.

Protect critical power distribution systems from outages or voltage spikes associated with utility service or lightning events through code-compliant surge suppression systems.

Coordinate EV charging infrastructure as a property amenity or where required by local governments and municipalities, with the electrical capacity and infrastructure needed to support the charging stations.

Interior Lighting Design

Design general interior lighting and coordinate specialty lighting requirements with third-party lighting consultants when needed. JSE also performs photometry to evaluate lighting levels and supports the coordination of emergency lighting and exit signage.

Plan functional, safety-focused lighting for parking areas and other exterior spaces while coordinating with landscape architects, specialty lighting designers, and local utility providers when required.

Coordinate lighting controls around life safety, applicable energy codes, and project requirements. JSE also provides guidance on energy-code considerations including IECC and ASHRAE requirements.

Develop performance-based fire alarm designs with code-compliant device layouts and locations, including initiating and notification devices such as smoke detectors, horns, strobes, and heat detectors. JSE also develops performance specifications for use by fire alarm subcontractors during shop drawing development.

Design performance-based lightning protection systems using Early Streamer Emission systems or traditional Franklin systems based on project requirements.

Why Jordan & Skala

Electrical Engineering That Stays Connected to the Bigger Project

01

Practical Decisions, Not Overdesign

More is not automatically better. We help teams size and select systems around actual project requirements so that safety, reliability, energy use, and cost remain in balance.

02

Coordination Across Disciplines

Electrical systems serve nearly every other part of the building. Our teams coordinate closely with mechanical, plumbing, low voltage, architecture, and specialty consultants so that connected requirements do not get discovered too late.

03

Responsive When the Project Changes

Electrical loads change. Equipment changes. Design priorities change. Our teams listen, communicate, and adapt so that electrical decisions can move with the project without losing sight of the fundamentals.

The emphasis on responsiveness reflects the MEP leadership interviews and the established “listen, communicate, adapt” approach.

Bring Electrical Into the Conversation Early

Whether the project is working through power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, EV charging, or broader infrastructure coordination, getting the right disciplines involved early creates more room to make informed decisions before complexity compounds.
