Women’s History Month: Regina Young

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting Senior Associate & Mechanical Engineer, Regina Young, LEED AP, PE.

Regina manages a team of twenty-two members collaborating to create the mechanical, electrical and plumbing design of buildings that range anywhere from large mixed-use developments to industrial warehouses. She began her career with Jordan & Skala in 2001 as an entry level designer and has since grown professionally by earning her EIT, PE and even exploring her own business venture while still working closely with JSE. Today, she serves as one of the core members of Jordan & Skala’s leadership team. Her role as team leader involves overseeing and coordinating the MEP design, managing the financial aspects of each project, building and maintaining relationships with clients and helping the team to find solutions to daily design opportunities.

As a leader at Jordan & Skala, Regina is most passionate about mentoring the young generation — especially women coming into the industry. Historically, women make up a small percentage of the AEC workforce, but with the support of Jordan & Skala Engineers, Regina believes that she’s been able to take on opportunities that help her grow as a leader while mentoring young engineers along the way.

When asked what knowledge she would pass on to anyone starting out in the AEC industry, she shared:

“Listen to all of your clients, mentors, peers, men, women, negative, and positive — just use your ears and listen. Take in all that you can and ask a lot of questions. Understand that you don’t know everything. Knowledge is gained through experience and respect is earned through how you apply your knowledge. If you use the good, the bad and the ugly to grow, success is inevitable. With patience, you will grow to achieve your desired position and fulfill your career path.”

When she is not designing developments, she is hiking, running or spending time with her husband watching their sons play sports.
